Prof. Dr. Jens Kreisel is vice-rector for research of the University of Luxembourg (UL) and Professor for Physics and Materials Sciences. Jens is passionate about how different physical properties interact in functional materials and how such functionalities can be translated into technology. In addition to his career as a scientist, Jens has acquired over the past decade a large experience in the senior executive management of both academic institutions and research-driven departments. Thanks to an international education and career in Karlsruhe (D), Lyon & Grenoble (F), Oxford & Warwick (GB) and Luxembourg he has a sound knowledge of different international university and research systems.

At UL, he is responsible for the University’s research vision, strategy and agenda. Other key responsibilities include the strengthening of interdisciplinary and innovation initiatives, and doctoral education. Jens represents the University in national and international scientific committees and organisations and establishes relations with relevant public and industry players.

Before joining UL, he has been the Founding Director of the Department Materials Research and Technology (MRT) at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), Director of Research at the CNRS in Grenoble and Dpt. Vice-President of the Grenoble Institute of Technology
